Anyone who owns a 3DS is most likely upset, or was at one point, that the Vita, and even the goddamn Windows Phone got Minecraft, but not their beloved console. Well, I'm here to show you it's a thing - or, it will be.
You see, anyone who occasionally browses the eShop must've noticed Cube Creator 3D. CC3D is a WIP game by Big John Games. They've currently developed WiiWare, DSiWare, 3DS eShop title(s), Xbox 360 game(s) and Windows game(s). If anyone knows if they're good, please tell me so. It's currently downloadable as a demo and comes with 20 "uses".
Anyway, this starts off as your ordinary Minecraft clone. You're presented with pixelated blocks, you have an inventory with "retro-style blox," and the whole shebang. As you go on, you'll see there's a castle, a house, and a couple of mines. If you go into the house, you'll see that Big John isn't one of those "push out a knockoff make money" companies; you'll see they hid an easter egg in there. You'll see there's a wooden table to the left, go into the water and you're led to a secret diamond room. Cute.
Other than that, there's not a lot left to it. Before I get to the downsides, I want to point out a glitch: If you go up to a block really close in 3D and click the delete button on the touchscreen (The X next to the inventory) it'll show two, an example of faulty stereoscopics. Just pointing that out if anyone from BJG sees this (which they won't ).
Anyway, cons. First off, the use of polygons! Yes, this is a big factor in a lot of knockoffs. You expect the same blocky enemies, but they're either Atari Jaguar quality "polygon" **** or they're floating rectangles. These people need to figure out to make anthropomorphic characters without making them full-out polygons. I really hope that BJG goes with the Minecraft blocky character style - It seems they can't polygon.
Moving on. It seems the sprite resolution stays inconsistent; they almost can't decide whether to be high quality or "8-bit". For example, look at the cacti compared to grass, and the ore compared to stone. I don't have a capture card or camera handy, so do it yourself. D: Sorry. Also, look at the stone closely, it's the best example of this - the sprites are JPEGs. Yes, they couldn't even try to handle PNGs, they went straight tok JPEGs. I might be a detail nag, but those two really ruin the quality, to me.
Finally, liquid. The physics were totally trashed. No one can seem to emulate the authentic Minecraft lava/water physics, and this is no exception. The water always stays six-sided, it doesn't ever slope. nor does it fall of of the sides of a block, or, at least, if it flows off of a side. See, the physics in Minecraft are bad, but worse here.
My final though is, if you don't have an easy access to Minecraft on PC, buy this when it comes out. I recently was forced to downgrade my PC (Laptop died) and now my current computer's display driver is too old for Minecraft and won't update... so if you're like me, or just don't have a PC or smartphone alternative, buy this, by all means. It's also good if you travel a lot, and again, don't have/like MCPE. If you crave Minecraft on your 3DS, also check out Battleminer on eShop and the various Minecraft clones for Petite Computer, DSiWare rereleased on eShop.
